Since 2011, two major typhoons have brought tragedy to Mindanao, Southern Philippines.

On December 17, 2011, Typhoon Sendong (Washi) triggered flashfloods in Northern Mindanao killing 1,403 persons dead, with 1,089 missing, and displacing 70,000 families.

Nearly a year hence, on December 4, 2012, Typhoon Pablo hit Southern Mindanao, a first for the region in recent history, with around 1,100 dead and 800 missing.

The wrath of this storm is far worse than Sendong as it also devastated thousands of hectares of agricultural lands and forests.

Nearly 90,000 families from Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental are displaced or lost their homes and need help.  Their livelihood on coconuts, rice, and bananas worth billions of pesos perished. More than 2 million are in dire need of food and emergency assistance.
